Cow-calf research has received increasing emphasis from the CRF membership during the past years. Several research topics stressed in this area are: evaluation of digestible fiber sources, effect of calf creep programs on feedlot starting performance and carcass quality, and development of self limiting supplements for growing cattle that are grazing. In addition, other research areas are: minerals and bypass protein & energy on post-partum first calf heifers, and the impact of energy levels and feed additives on reproduction performance. Current research direction in the feedlot area involves: the influence of RAP® (technology developed by CRF) in growing diets and carcass quality, evaluation the composition of growth and carcass quality of cattle from various genetic sources, carbohydrate types and protein sources, genetically modified grains, growth promoters, improving the utilization of nitrogen and phosphorus in diets, and the influence of back-grounding programs on carcass quality. |
