Broiler/Layer
Research - St. Jean-Baptiste, Quebec
Poultry research has been conducted by CRF for the various
species broilers, game or sporting birds, layers and turkeys. Currently,
CRF's focus is on broiler and layer research and conducted at a new state
of the art facility located in St. Jean-Baptiste, QC, Canada. The research
unit features a fully automated ventilation system, a solar wall and
heated floors with a 64 pen room for broilers (with a capacity ranging
from 1,600 to 2,240 birds) or other floor raised avian species. There is
also a 100 cage room, completely separated from the broiler room, to
manage 300 laying hens. This new facility operated by La Coop fédérée,
will allow CRF:
Improvements in confidentiality and efficiencies of research
Control of chick source (breed, hen age, egg size).
Control of feed ingredients, feed form and production parameters.
Potential to obtain yield and other processing data from
fédérée's processing plants.
Cost savings by marketing research birds.
Improved cost effectiveness of CRF poultry research.
Current research emphasis is on the nutrition for the first weeks of
life and the development of unique, proprietary feeding programs.
